Bantam Girls B - Bantam B Girls win Woodstock Wildcats Tournament
On the weekend of Jan 6-7-8 the Bantam Girls B team participated in the Woodstock Wildcats Tournament returning home as tournament champions.
The team had an exciting hockey weekend in Woodstock playing challenging teams and coming home victorious. The girls went 1-1-1 in round robin play and put it altogether on Sunday to win the semi final game and then the finals! Congratulations team!
Game one was played on Fri Jan 6th vs Lambeth Lancers. The Lancers opened the scoring at the end of the first period and then Megan Glavin with a shot from the point assisted by Courtney Erb tied the game in the second period. The third period was scoreless and the girls started the tournament with a well played 1-1 game. Player of the game was Glavin. Games two and three were played on Sat Jan 7th. Game two was played vs Stoney Creek Sabres. After a scoreless first period, Lauryn Overholt opened the scoring for South Huron assisted by Shelby Heywood and Megan Dalrymple. Erb scored the second goal of the game for South Huron assisted by Overholt. Goaltender, Kyrstin Krainz backed the team with a shutout, giving the girls their first win of the tournament. Player of the game was Overholt. Game three vs Woodstock Wildcats was played later in the afternoon. The Wildcats aggressive play proved too much for the South Huron team. Woodstock scored twice in the second period and South Huron's lone goal was scored by Heywood from Overholt and Emily Wells. Player of the game went to goaltender Krainz although very busy, kept the game close for the Sabres. The semi final game was played at noon on Sun Jan 8th vs Lambeth. Both teams came out strong, however South Huron got on the board first with a pretty goal from Wells who carried the puck all the way from her own end to put it behind the Lancer's goaltender. In the second period, another South Huron goal scored by Niki Hern, assisted by Dalrymple gave the South Huron team a two goal lead. Lambeth scored the next goal in the third which was quickly answered with another from Wells, assisted by Jaimee Clarke. Within the minute, Wells again fired home another goal giving the South Huron Captain a well earned hat trick against a tough team. With a flurry of activity in the last minutes of the game, Lambeth scored twice making the dying seconds of the game very exciting. The final score would be 4-3 for South Huron with player of the game going to Wells. The tournament finals was played against the Woodstock Wildcats. The first period was scoreless and then in the second period Wells scored for South Huron assisted by Paige Lightfoot. Woodstock tied it up and then Clarke on a rush from her own end, got around both their defense and put the puck in to give South Huron the lead. Woodstock pushed back hard, but Krainz stopped everything they shot at her in the third. Erb scored an empty net goal for South Huron in the final 30 seconds of the game giving the Sabres the tournament win. Player of the game was Clarke. Well done ladies. Congratulations on an impressive tournament.
