PeeWee Rep - Peewees Advance to Quarters
Peewee Poys defeat Blenheim in 3 straight games to advance to OMHA quarter finals.
Game 1 - After a slow start and numerous penalties the locals clung to 2 - 1 lead after 2 periods thanks to good penalty killing by the units of Horner & Mitchell and Tait & Boyle. Goals scorers were Charlie Tait and Nick Overholt with assists going to Michael Boyle, Connor Drager, Drew Horner and Austin Glavin.
The 3rd period started the same as the first 2 with the locals in the penalty box. The Sabres were able to hold off their opponents long enogugh and ended up with a 5 -2 win. Goal scorers were Overholt (2) & Mitch Dykstra 1. Assists went to Horner (2), Glavin and Jake Gingerich. Chad Crawford registered the win in goal.
Game 2 in Blenheim - The boys again couldn't seem to find away to stay out of the penalty box and the result was a 3 - 1 deficit after 2 periods. The only bright spot was an unassisted tally from the stick of Boyle on a nice solo effort.
The Sabres were determined to have a better effort in the 3rd and started quickly with a goal by Mitchell with Tait and Dykstra drawing the assists. The hosts came right back and restored their 2 goal lead making it a 4 -2 deficit. The line of Overholt, Horner & Glavin then took over with Overholt getting both goals and the other 2 getting assists on each. The result OT. Thanks to some untimely penalties by their oppenents the Sabres had a 2 man advantage power play in overtime and wouldn't disappoint their supporters with Overholt scoring the winner after a shot from the point by Drager.
Game 3 - From the outset the Sabres were determined that the sweep would happen. Mitchell scored 2 minutes into the game with assists going to Drager and Dykstra. Drager scored midway through the 2nd to make the score 2 - 0, Horner & Dykstra drew the assists. With Less then a minute to go Overholt sent the boys to the locker room happy with an unasssited goal. The highlight goal of the game came early in the 3rd on a great individual rush down the boards from Jessie Simpson who then sent the pass out in front to Overholt who batted the puck out of the air into the net. Horner and Overholt took turns scoring goals in the next couple minutes with Brett Reid & Glavin getting assists. Glavin from Overholt & Dykstra and Owen Chandler unassisted rounded out the scoring. Final score 8 - 0. The only negative for the Sabres was that they again found themselves with penalty problems but the additional penalty killing time they have had over the past few games seemed to pay off as they killed all 8 during the game. Shut out - Crawford.
Next up - Quarter Finals against the winner of Dunnville/West Lincoln.
The coaching staff would like to remind parents that anything the players may lose on Saturday will most certainly return. It is what the coaches may lose that may not return!
