Peewee Girls B - DURHAM TOURNAMENT Game 3

The 3rd game for the Sabres in the tournament did not mean anything to either team. The Wildcats were advancing to the A Final with their 2-0 record. The loss on Saturday eliminated the South Huron girls. The girls were playing for pride and new they were in for a tough game against one of the strongest “C” teams in the province. The Sabres were shutout 6-0, but 4 of the 6 goals were scored in the final period. “The girls played well the whole tournament, including this game. We ran out of gas late in the game today, but they should hold their heads up high for how they competed”, stated Coach Livermore.

After a tough loss in the first game of the girl’s tournament the Sabres were hoping to bounce back against the 0-1 Angels from Brockville. A common occurrence lately, the Pee Wee’s gave up the first goal and had to play catch up. “It’s been happening to us a lot lately.

The South Huron Sabres participated in the Durham Regional Girls Hockey Tournament in Pickering Feb 17-19. They opened the tournament against the Scarborough Sharks. The game went back and forth from start to finish. The Sabres came out flying right out of the gate. Sarah Houston broke away with the puck and found herself 1 on 1 with the net minder a few seconds into the game, but was stoned by the Sharks goalie.

Peewee Girls B - Feb 15th Lambeth Lancers (2) vs Sabres (0)

Game 2 between the Lambeth Lancers in the WOGHL playoffs would end in a 2-0 loss for the Sabres. It was a hard fought game with the Sabres having many chances to score, but were stymied by the excellent goaltending of Carlie Price (not Carey Price). The Lancers scored a late goal in the middle frame and another one early in the third. “The girls played hard tonight. We played a lot better tonight against the Lancers who had beaten us easily 5-1 the week before. If we play like that sooner or later we will get the bounces and the goals in any game”, remarked Assistant Coach Marc Clausius.

The Sabres travelled to Milverton on Monday night to try and bounce back from a heart breaking loss to the Teeswater Otters on Saturday in the provincial playoff round robin series. This was the first meeting between the Sabres and Royals in the playoff format. Earlier in the season the South Huron girls lost 2-0 to the Royals, so they knew this game would be a challenge.

If the Sabres plan on advancing to the provincials this year they are going to have to score goals! South Huron was dealt a tough loss when they travelled up Hwy 4 to Teeswater. The Otters avenged a 4-1 loss to the Sabres a week ago and pulled even in the round robin playoff format. The shots favoured the Sabres, but they could not solve netminder Kristen Ruetz. “It’s not going to come easy. I expected Teeswater-Mildmay to play better than last week and they did. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t play better . We have 4 more games to see if we can”, said Manager Chris Taylor.

Peewee Girls B - Feb 7 Lambeth Lancers (5) vs Sabres (1)

The month of February is slated to be a very very busy month. Along with the provincial playoffs, the Sabres also are playing their league playoff round robin series. The team is scheduled to play 12 games and a few practices mixed in. After coming off an opening provincial win the girls didn’t have the same energy at home on Tuesday night. Lianne Taylor scored the lone goal in a 5-1 loss to Lambeth. This game was the first in their WOGHL league playdown

Peewee Girls B - Feb 4th Sabres (4) vs Otters (1)

The girls started their quest for a provincial “C” berth on Saturday, February 4th at home against the Teeswater-Mildmay Otters, a team that was unfamiliar to them. The Sabres are pooled with the Otters, Mitchell Meteors and the Milverton Royals. The top 2 teams in the pool will advance to the provincials in April. “We’ve had a very challenging season so far this year.

The Sabres have entered playoff hockey. In league play, our record to date is a 1-1-1 record. For Provincial play, we have a 2-1-1 record. The games are getting faster with the opposition stronger. The girls continue to show overall good positional play, our challenge is creating and getting the bounces in the offensive zone. We have the skill and are still in the hunt.

The South Huron Juveniles faced the Lampton Shores Juvenile team tonight in Forest for Game 2 of their OMHA Series. After a close Game 1 loss last week-end, they needed to Win this game to even things up. They got behind early in the first period and found themselves trailing 3 - 0 after the first 15 mins.
