Great Signs of Improvement at Mitchell Meteors Women’s Hockey Tournament
The South Huron Novice Girls participated in the Mitchell Meteors Women’s Hockey Tournament over the past weekend.  The girls came away with an 0-3 record, with losses of 1-0 to Waterloo, 6-0 to eventual champion Sarnia, and 4-1 to Ilderton.  Despite the losses, the girls continue to show real signs of improvement that have the coaching staff looking forward to good things ahead.

The game against Waterloo was a tight contest with Waterloo scoring the lone goal of the game in the third period.  Kyle Dalrymple played very well in goal, while Hana Jones consistently worked hard and played solid positionally, earning Player of the Game.  Very hard workers Sierra Haines and Jesse Gorman played well on forward. Against Sarnia the girls played their best period of the season, playing to a 0-0 tie after the first through solid positional play and hard work.  Defensemen Nicole McBride, Kyle Dalrymple, Rene Campbell and Devon Farquhar all played well, with Farquhar being named Player of the Game.  Olivia Glavin was again solid in goal.  A lapse by the girls at the start of the second period and then late in the game was too much to overcome.  In the final game of the tournament the girls started to generate some much needed offence, with Lauren Campbell producing multiple breakaways and capitalizing on one midway through the third period of a close game.  Very good games were played by Ella Parsons and Ryan Schepers.  Hanna Jones (Player of the Game), Brooke Taylor and Maddie Farquhar all played very well and just missed on scoring opportunities as well.  Of note was the play of defenseman Nicole McBride, who was typically excellent throughout the tournament. The girls have a busy upcoming weekend, with a game at home on Saturday against Lucan and on the road Sunday against Zorra in Thamesford.
