Atom C Sabres - Year in Review (and a Great Year it Was!)
The Atom C girls had a terrific season this year. The team is made up of six first year girls and and seven second year girls. These girls battled for wins in games and tournaments, improved their skills at practices, and developed a great bond with each other, all without forgetting the reason why they play hockey; because they love the game.

They started the season 4-3 in the WOGHL league which put them in the top division. They then competed in the Stratford Aces tournament in the A division. Being a C division team this was a great learning experience and although they didn't win a game they played very respectable hockey.

In the Pink On The Rink tournament held here in South Huron the girls fell short again, losing in the semi finals. Both the teammates and coaches felt that these two tournaments were great learning experiences for the girls, realizing how hard it is to win.

The girls battled to finish the year in first place in their league capturing the WOGHL Division 1 title. February was a busy month with WOGHL playoffs, OWHA play downs and the Walter Gretzky tournament. The team once again entered a higher division at the tournament going in B. This time they wouldn't be denied and came away champions of the tournament not losing a game. In WOGHL playoffs they didn't manage to get through to the finals against a real strong division.  OWHA play downs however brought great results as the girls went a perfect 6-0 putting them in first place as a qualifying team for provincials.

Provincials was held in Toronto and there was 20 teams from all across Ontario to compete for the Atom C division. Through 6 games the girls showed how dynamic their teamwork had become. Great goaltending, outstanding defence and relentless forechecking gave the Sabres the edge. Needless to say the team had the best fan support of any team at the tournament. It came down to a gold medal game against Carleton Place who had came off a very successful season. With every girl on the team giving all they had and our awesome fans chanting "we believe that we will win" the girls managed to capture the gold medal in overtime 3-2.

The coaching staff of this team could not be more proud of this amazing group of girls. Congratulations girls. You're Provincial Champions!!!
