Another sweet - hard earned victory. Gold medal champions AGAIN at Sarnia Silverstick Tournament. Our entire Midget Girls team and coaching staff should be extremely proud of themselves...bringing home some hardware - gold medals, trophy and banner to display and hang at our barn - name proudly to be engraved on a plaque and the opportunity to pose with the SILVER STICK!
Friday started off with a nice win against Petrolia of 4-0. The next game at 6:15 was another win of 3-0 put us in a good position Saturday.
The Friday nite "strategy meeting" proved to be beneficial to the team as Saturday again was great. Facing Kent County at 12:30 gave us our third win of 2-1. Our late nite Saturday game ended in a tie on the game sheet of 1-1, but apparently the laws of gravity are different in Sarnia. Ilderton scored their goal by bouncing the cross bar - UP! Enough said, we were the only team in our pool without a loss - putting us in first for the semi finals.
Semi Finals were played bright and early at 8AM against our neighbours Blyth/Brussels. We knew we could not take this team for granted and weren't able to declare victory till the third OVERTIME. There were no shoot outs at this tournament. 5 minute overtimes are played till a goal is scored. First overtime goes to 4 on 4, then 3 on 3 till victory.
The Gold Medal Final Game proved to be a long one! We faced off against Mount Brydges, and these Cougars wanted the Sabres badly as we put them out of the Hamilton Tournament in a shoot out. Gold Medal Victory wasn't obtained till the SIXTH Overtime!
Every single player on this team needs to be congratulated and commended on their positive attitudes, excellent sportsmanship and drive for gold! It is so nice to be associated with a team that has all these attributes wherever they play. Whether they are on the ice - with rubber legs - on the bench cheering and supporting them during play - or even just out and about enjoying the tournament, they are an awesome group of girls!
I almost feel like I'm stuttering....GOLD - GOLD - SILVER - GOLD - 4 Tourneys - 4 Medals - And incredible season stats....this team rocks....let's hope we can carry this through LL League Finals and Provincials...I think they all have good necks and could handle a few more medals! As it is sung - For Those About to Rock - we salute you!
