Novice Reps win International Silver Stick
On January 11 - 14th 2018, The South Huron Novice Rep. Boys (The Parkhill Regional Champions) travelled to Pelham, Ontario for the "A" International Silver Stick Tournament and won the Gold Medal!!

Game #1 vs Collingwood Blackhawks (Brampton Regional Champion) - The Sabres game out flying scoring early and often on route to a 10-0 victory.  Many great passes and strong efforts from the entire team was on display.  Shutout by goaltender Logan Morley.

Game #2 vs Woolwich Wildcats (Midland Regional Champion) - The boys came out strong in this game up 2-0 after two periods up play and eventually went up 4-0 before the Wildcats got on the scoreboard with 4 straight goals.  The boys fought through the adversity and found a way to score the game winning goal with 40 seconds left in regulation. 5-4 final.   This was a great character game for the entire team finding a way to battle when the momentum was against them.

Game #3 vs Waterloo Wolves (Northumberland Regional Champion) - A back and forth game that was a close being tied 0-0 going into the third period before the Sabres offense got on the board scoring 3 unanswered goals winning 3-0.   This was another complete team effort which featured strong positional play and hard work.  Shutout by goaltender Logan Morley.

After round robin pool play the Sabres found themselves alone in first place and got a bye straight to the semi-finals.

Game #4 vs Collingwood Blackhawks (Semi-Finals) - The determined Sabres scored :59 seconds into the game and never looked back on way to a 12-1 victory and a trip the gold medal game on Sunday in a rematch vs the Woolwich Wildcats.  The game highlight for me was that every Sabre recorded at least one point in this game and was the first time this happened all season.

Game #5 vs Woolwich Wildcats (Finals) - A rematch vs the wildcats, did not disappoint, from the opening puck drop the boys skated hard in this very fast paced game.  The Sabres led 2-0 after the first period of play and added goals in the second and third periods onto a 4-0 victory.  Great defense and strong back checking with timely saves was the recipe for the win and won GOLD!!!

A couple of fun facts from the games played over the weekend;

     - 48 assists over the course of the tournament
     - The Sabres never trailed in any game
     - Outscored the teams 34 to 5 = +29.
     - Least amount of goals against.
     - Most goals for.
     - 3 shutouts.

For me the experience was amazing all weekend long at this tournament, from the opening ceremonies to the pin trading, the boys had a great time all weekend long!  This was a very well run tournament.  It was  first class of the tournament director taking the time to speak with the boys and all of our families as a group in our dressing room after the closing ceremonies.  They addressed the team on how special winning International Silver Stick is.

I am extremely proud of this group and contributions made by the entire team.  The boys should be extremely proud of themselves and for the accomplishments they made at this tournament at a very high level of play.  All games were played as a team The entire team worked together and played hard.  Forwards - Kallen Grant, Basil McLaughlin, Myles Phillips, Hudson Leenders, Jack Taylor, Drew Kramer and Kane Barch all worked very hard with strong two way play.  Defence - Cullen (T-Bone) Kerslake, Jesse Debruyn, Cole Smale and Ryan Obre all had strong weekends on the point against these very strong teams.  Goaltender - Logan Morley was great in net all weekend long!

Tournament organizers were very complimentary of the boys and on well they played moving up from a "CC" classification to win a "A" International title!!  All coaches, families and fans are very proud of the past weekend's showing and accomplishments.   Keep up the good work boys!!

The Sabres will continue to practice hard and continue on in OMHA "BB" play-downs and Shamrock League play-offs.

Go Sabres Go!!!
