Midget B Girls Win Silver at Provincials
The South Huron Midget B Girls captured the silver medal this past weekend at Provincials held in Toronto. The girls went undefeated until the final game only to lose an exciting and nail biting game in overtime 2-1 to the Kemptville Storm.

The tournament started off a little shaky for the girls as they were short 4 players for the first game due to traffic accident this side of Kitchener (which had them on the road for over 3 hours). The girls even though they only had 2 lines were determined not to let this bother them came out flying and crushed the Etobicoke Dolphins 8-0. This was a great start as it allowed both goalies to get some rust off in game action and get ready for action later.
The second game was against a much bigger and more aggressive Thunder Bay team but the ladies were never intimidated by them and used their speed to get numerous power plays and come out on top of the 3-1 score.
Guaranteed at least a playoff round game the girls were determined to finish first in their pool and dominated the play but running into a hot goalie from Mount Forest came out in a close 1-0 win.
Finishing second by GF/GA of the pool winners this allowed the girls to get a bye into the quarter finals were they met their league rivals from Brantford. Brantford beat the local girls in a close fought 3 game series to win the league championship so revenge was definitely on their minds, The determined bunch of 15-17 year olds came out flying and built up a lead and then held on to a 3-2 win and send Brantford home. Most teams would be satisfied after this win but I could see this was not good enough in their eyes as Sunday the semi final game was against North Bay. Again against a northern much bigger and more aggressive team the girls used their speed, heart and determination to blank them 2-0.
In the finals the girls played the Kemptville Storm and after of moment of rememberance for the bus tragedy in Saskatchewan where both teams alternated each other around the center face off circle it was done to the provincial pinnacle. It was a very evenly matched game with both teams trading scoring chances and the game being tied after 3 periods. This meant sudden victory and with South Huron getting a very questionable tripping call Kemptville banged in a rebound to win with 48 seconds remaining. With their heads held high after defeat the girls realized there was nothing to be ashamed about getting silver and being second best in the province. For 8 of the players it was their last year of minor hockey due to graduation so it was a great way to wrap it up.
As coach of this team that was assembled I have never been more proud and honoured to have spent many hours on and off the ice with such a great group of young ladies!!!
Well done!!!!!
