Our first game of this crazy year during this crazy time went down saturday dec 5th against our rivals from the stonetown.
From the drop of the puck we knew our hands would be full. We were facing new rules, new circumstances but the boys were ready and did not disappoint.
Throughout out the last couple months of practice we have been skating them hard at the beginning to hopefully have them ready for this new 3 on 3 format with full ice. The boys answered the bell and were able to mostly keep the same fast pace that we need in order to play this style. There were a few sucking wind on the bench though.
Another big thing is their 3 on 3 positioning, we worked so hard last year to learn positioning for 5 on 5 that we didn't want to neglect and abandon what we learned last year so we are doing a hybrid form of positioning to overcome all situations. For the most part they all played really well at both ends of the rink. Gideon the grocer was stellar coming up with some timely saves when needed.
we are very lucky to have 4 kids DJ Dman, the emperor, uncle ben and cosmo that want to play defense which is somewhat out the ordinary for most youth hockey teams. If you noticed your child playing on offence for a shift or two that is why. All the D played extremely well keeping the puck away from The Grocer Lavier and moving the puck up to the forwards. However this did cause a few hiccups as a certain young Dman was not accustomed to the offside rule. (work in progress)
The forwards all played their typical two way fashion being back to help out the D and rip a few goals. Sniper mason (2), flipper boyle (2)and jean claude vandenbussche(3) led the scoring with cosmo kramer (1)adding a clap bomb from the slot as well. The Ninja Glavin made a couple nice back hand saucer passer that had the ladies in the stands drooling over their coffee and baileys.
They are buying into what we are selling that for sure...spreading out, long passes and hard work at both ends of the rink.
BWT, if you see kate dont mention the penalty she took. (some people will do anything to get on the score sheet)
