Roy Beechey Memorial Tournament
On October 21st through the 23rd the South Huron Sabres Novice Rep. traveled to Tillsonburg for the annual Roy Beechey Memorial Tournament, placed second and received the silver medal.   After a hard fought weekend of games, the Novice Rep. Sabres are proud silver medalists. The boys took many steps forward as a team and in their individual game play this past weekend. Everyone contributed in this weekend’s efforts and should be extremely proud of the way they played.

Game 1 - Against the host Tillsonburg Tornado’s was a strong game for the Sabres to start the tournament.  After finding themselves down 3-1 midway through the second period the Sabres dug down deep to tie the game 3-3 at the end of the second.  The teams exchanged goals in the third and settled with a 4-4 tie.  Game highlight was the hard two way play of the team that featured some good passing.  Goaltender Logan Morley was strong in goal to preserve the tie.  Player of the game was Hudson Leenders.

Game 2 - Against the Oro Thunder was complete team effort.  The Sabres were down 1-0 early but scored quickly after and never looked back for an 8-5 win.  Again the hard work and the strong two way play allowed the Sabres offense to erupt for 8 goals on 26 shots on goal.  Strong passing and puck movement proved to be the key for the victory.  Forwards Jayden Pullman, Kane Barch, Sam Consitt, Jackson O’Reilly, Jack Taylor, Hudson Leenders, Luke Dalrymple and Brady Farquhar played hard in the offensive end and maintained pressure on the opposing team.  Player of the game was Sam Consitt.

After the preliminary round robin the South Huron Sabres found themselves on top of the standings in pool “A” and had to prepare themselves for a strong St. Mary’s team in the semi's.

Game 3 (Semi-final) - Against the St. Marys Rock was a hard fought battle, The Sabres jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway in the first, but were down 2-1 halfway in the second period.  The challenge did not phase the Sabres and were able to tie the game at 2-2, the boys worked extremely hard to force the game into overtime.  The 3 on 3 sudden death overtime was very exciting with end to end action as the two teams exchanged chances in this elimination game.  After the 5 minute overtime period the game still was not decided and a shootout was next.  Shooters Sam Consitt, Jack Taylor and Hudson Leenders all capitalized on their chances, goaltender Logan Morley stood tall through the entire game and only allowed one goal in the shoot out!.  The Sabres won 3-2!!!  Not enough can be said about the solid play of the defense, Ryan Obre, Jesse Debruyn, Heath Bogart and Cullen (T-Bone) Kerslake were amazing on the point and were able to limit the strong St. Marys offense to just 2 goals during regulation and the extra overtime period.  Player of the game was Heath Bogart.

Game 4 ("A" Final) - Against the Ayr Flames was another hard fought game that featured strong 2 way play.  An early goal from Jack Taylor got the Sabres rolling, but after getting down 3-1, Luke Dalrymple scored a huge goal and got the Sabres within one, but the strong defensive play of the Flames shut the offense down the rest of the way.  Flames 3 – Sabres 2.  The boys worked extremely hard but were unable to tie the game.  Logan Morley again was strong in net capping off an amazing tournament between the pipes earning the player of the game award.

Congratulations to the Sabres!  All the coaches, family and friends are very proud of your accomplishments over the weekend!    The (9-1-2) South Huron Sabres will now go back into Shamrock league play and prepare for the Bill Batten 28th Memorial tournament as the host team on November 4th – 6th.

Go Sabres Go!!!
