SHMHA Covid Vaccination Policy
Submitted By Kim Kramer on Wednesday, September 8, 2021
It has been recently mandated by both OMHA and OWHA (our two governing bodies) that COVID-19 vaccines are required for participation in minor hockey this year. As you will see in detail in the below links to the policy specifics, the following applies:

This policy applies to the following Affected Persons:

• Players born in 2009 or earlier

• Team Officials (Coaches, Trainers and Managers, etc.)

• Game Officials (referees, linespersons, timekeepers, etc.)

• Association Officials (minor hockey association directors, officers, executive and staff)

• OMHA/OWHA Officials (directors, officers, executive and staff, including hockey development personnel)

• Volunteers • Instructors (third parties engaged by Associations or Teams to provide specialized instruction (e.g., power skating, goaltending coaching)

At present, this policy does not apply to hockey players born in 2010 or later, or to hockey spectators.

The policy in place requires All Affected Persons to be Fully Vaccinated (i.e.: including the 14-day period after receiving their completed dose) by October 31, 2021 in the case of OMHA and October 17th for OWHA, or earlier. OWHA is currently still developing their policy details.

South Huron Minor Hockey will be making available a designated person(s) to be available for individuals to present their evidence satisfactory to the OMHA/OWHA demonstrating that they have received the completed series of an accepted COVID-19 Vaccine. The association will not be required to keep any medical records or vaccination receipts on file. The association designate will simply be required to confirm that the proof has been provided, recorded and maintain on file a list of all participants who have provided such proof. The association designate will be available at the first skate for each division to confirm required documentation.

Both OMHA and OWHA continue to update details related to their policies and direction to local associations such as ours. For the most available information related to the league policies and their plans, see the links below. While OWHA continues to develop their policy, the OMHA link provides details that are helpful to know including valid proof of vaccination and accommodation process.

OWHA Policy statement

As per league direction, in light of these announcements, we acknowledge that some families will be withdrawing their registration from the 2021-22 season. If you do NOT plan to have your player (those born before 2010) fully vaccinated and therefor are unable to proceed with this season, you may request a withdrawal. This request must be sent to your respective registrar on or before Sept 12th at 7pm.

Girls [email protected]

If you plan to proceed with participation this season and your player is not fully vaccinated by October 31 2021(OMHA) or October 17,2021(OWHA), there will be no refund given and your player will not be able to participate in any further SHMHA programming until the OMHA/OWHA vaccination policy requirements have been met. It is imperative that we have an accurate number of participants as soon as possible to continue with seasonal planning.

By submitting a request for withdrawal, you acknowledge that you will not be able to participate in any SHMHA programming for the 2021-2022 season and will not be able to rejoin our organization for this season under the current Covid vaccination policies as outlined by the OMHA/OWHA.

We look forward to having the safest return to hockey as possible and appreciate your ongoing participation in youth minor hockey.
