Participatory Commitment

SHMHA hosts 4 very successful tournaments each season and the participation of all families is a major contributor to that success. These tournaments allow us to help fund our programming without any additional fundraising throughout the season.

CONTINUING for the 2023-2024 season, we will be offering the option to opt out of a volunteer shift for a $200 fee (per participant). Families with multiple children can make this selection individually for each player (for example - 2 kids - 1 opt out at $200, plus 1 shift for the other). ****This option will only be available to be selected prior to the start of the season and payment must be made in full by August 1, 2023 with registration.****

A bond cheque in the amount of $500 and dated Dec 1, 2023 will be required for each registered player unless the opt out option has been selected. These cheques will be collected by bench staff and submitted at the beginning of the season.

Cheques will NOT be cashed unless hours are not completed.

Participatory hours are for the benefit of the players within South Huron Minor Hockey. 

One shift will need to be completed for EVERY child registered within SHMHA. We will be maintaining the structure from the past several seasons for 2023-2024.  Parents/Guardians will be able to sign up for positions and dates of their choosing on a first come, first serve basis in October 2023.  Shift lengths will vary from 4-7 hours and duties will be similar to previous years (set up, arena helper, registration desk, scorekeeper, timekeeper). The scheduled times for these shifts will not selected until a tournament schedule is completed which is usually 1-2 weeks ahead of the tournament.

Further information will follow at the beginning of the 2023-2024 season.

Each team will ALSO be responsible for the following throughout the season (which are not included in your volunteer requirements):

a) Time keeping for all home games
b) Score keepers for all home games
c) Sweater washing for entire season


**The person who is working must be 18 years or older with the exception of some timekeeper positions which may be U18 level registered players**

NEW*U18 players will be allowed to fulfill their own required hours with TIME CLOCK SHIFTS ONLY. Player MUST be familiar with the clock in all arenas in order to do so. All other shifts will still need to be fulfilled by those over 18.

*Time slot selection is done via email, NOT Sign Up Genius, AFTER time slots have been posted to the website.– Once time slots are posted for each tournament, parents will send an email to [email protected] with their preferred shift and the schedule will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Final schedules will be posted under each tournament of the volunteer tab.


*If a change of shift needs to be made, it is up to the parent/family to find someone to make that switch with. Once any shifts have been changed, send notification of the change to [email protected] so the schedule can be adjusted.
