Vaccination Requirement Update

Hello families,

SHMHA is working to ensure all of you are kept up to date on relevant changes to the hockey season including changes to provincial minor hockey and local municipal policies that impact SHMHA.

It is important for families to know that relevant policies tend to fall into four (4) general categories:

1.       Municipality of South Huron Facility Policy

2.       OMHA Vaccine Policy

3.       OWHA Vaccine Policy

4.       All other Arena/Municipal policies outside of South Huron

The following is a breakdown of the first three and we strongly recommend families plan ahead with their schedules by reviewing the policies of out of town arenas in advance of any scheduled games.

Municipal Facility Policy:

The Municipality of South Huron requires all adults 18+ to be fully vaccinated in order to enter their facility starting September 22, 2021. This means all adults attending the arena for their child’s skates must show proof to the Minor Hockey volunteer at the door prior to entering the facility. The volunteer will need to verify the following:

·         Completed COVID screening

·         Proof of vaccination and 14 day period since last vaccination

·         Proof of ID to match vaccination record

These are the municipality’s rules, and we suggest you give yourself extra time when arriving to complete this process. We also ask for and appreciate your patience with us as an Association as we navigate these changes and your kindness towards volunteers is appreciated.

Please read the full update from the Municipality HERE

OMHA Policy:

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) recently met and has decided to uphold their vaccine policy as previously shared. The policy for OMHA applies to the following:

·         Boys Hockey

·         Initiation Program (IP)

·         Intro

The OMHA Policy also requires that players aged 12-18 will need to be fully vaccinated by Oct 31 (including the 14 day waiting period). This policy also applies to all participants, bench staff, volunteers etc over 18 years of age requiring they be fully vaccinated.

The full OMHA policy can be found HERE

OWHA (girls) Policy:

Recently the OWHA released their planned vaccine policy which differs from OMHA but also defers to all Municipal facility policies as these differ across the province. In essence, OWHA has confirmed that players under the age of 18 do not need to be vaccinated if they actively participating in the sport. The OWHA Policy which can be read HERE requires participants and spectators to follow local facility rules.

Active Participants under the age of 18 are exempt from proof of vaccine

Participants 12 and up must be vaccinated

All patrons 18 and up must be vaccinated (including volunteers, and game officials)

We strongly encourage families to read the above links to be familiar with the policies and please remember as a user of the Arena, South Huron Minor Hockey must comply with the Municipal policy and we thank you for your patience and support.

Reminder: Other neighbouring arenas may have different policies and families should plan ahead and confirm their plans for participating in games outside of South Huron
