Comments – The Sabres travelled down Hwy 4 to Lucan
for their 2nd game of the day. Early on in the game it appeared like
the 1st game took a lot out of the visiting squad. Lucan jumped all
over the Sabres by taking a 4-0 lead. Things appeared worse for South Huron
during the stretch of goals as Carter Bowerman went awkwardly hard into the
boards and Ryder Livermore was tripped up from behind by one of his own players
accidentally. “Everything was going wrong. We were short players to start the
game, we started the game slow and Carter and Ryder were both taken off the ice
by the trainer”, said Head Coach Mark Livermore. Thankfully, both players were
fine and only had to miss a couple of shifts. “Anytime you see a player go into
the boards unprepared or see a helmet hit the ice you hope everything is
alright”, noted Manager Lee Gibbings. The rest of the players rallied around
the 2 troops while they sat out and once the 2 got back on the ice the
offensive started to chip away at Lucan’s lead. Livermore bounced back and broke the ice with
a nifty head man pass from Aiden Durnin. The next goal would be the turning
point of the entire game. Shortly after Livermore’s
goal, there was a mad scramble in the neutral zone. Mitchell Kenney would turn
and fire it into the Lucan zone on an unexpecting goalie. The play looked
harmless, but the puck would end up in an open net as the goalie was not paying
attention to the play in the middle of the ice. The Sabres would gain momentum
after Kenney’s goal. Aiden Durnin sped away on a breakaway to climb South Huron
to within 1. A possessed Livermore
would score 3 in a row and end up with the 8th goal. Carter Bowerman
would deke and shoot the 7th, 9th and 11th
goals. Rookie sensation Chase Wedlake would score on a late breakaway. The
Sabres would score 11 unanswered after trailing 4-0. “That 2nd goal
was huge. It gave us life. Lucan is a talented team and they were taking it too
us. We were not shocked that we were down 4-0. We knew it was going to be a
tough game. It was nice to see the boys work hard for this win”, said Manager
Lee Gibbings. Mathew Borland was busy in net making many great saves.
