While the world is currently experiencing a new normal,
SHMHA is working hard to keep hockey going for all of our players and their
families. The facilities and activities will not look exactly the same for the upcoming
season, but associations are working hard to ensure hockey can remain an
important part of families.
Procedures and requirements are constantly evolving and we are following updates from Hockey Canada, OHF, OMHA and the OWHA. Please take some time to review the Return to Hockey documents provided by the OHF at the below link to gain an understanding of the how the season will progress.

*The best way to access the most current information available from the association is to sign up for notifications from the home page of the website.
On the bottom left of the website, click either email or text message (depending on your preference).
The site will ask for your cell number or email address.
Select the box for News Articles from the organization row.
At a future date, you may also select your players team(s) if you wish to be notified of anything posted to their home page.
*****NEW FOR ALL AGE GROUPS*****
-Registration will be paid by cheque – see registration information for additional details
-Specific entry, exit and dressing protocols have been designated by the municipality and will be released ahead of our start dates.
-All participants (players, parents where/when allowed, coaches etc) must wear face coverings inside the facilities (they will NOT be required on the ice).
-Physical distancing must be practiced at all times while inside the facilities
-Water bottles must be supplied by each participant and should be clearly labelled. These will travel to and from the facilities with the players
-Screening and contact tracing will be required for every ice time
-Additional Waivers and forms may be required – information will be available prior to first ice times
Anticipated Season Start Dates
2013-2003 birth years – girls and boys – September 12
2014/2015 – U7- Initiation early October
Intro to Hockey (2016) will start October 17 provided registration numbers meet minimum requirements
We will be starting the season with skills and drills sessions with players grouped by birth year. Groupings will be comprised to make the best use of scheduled ice times and meet the requirements of the OHF, Municipality/Facility and Public Health Unit. Should groups of one birth year be smaller or larger than allowable numbers, the organization will hold authority to assign players to fill groups within reason. Any issues such as goalie numbers or individual group numbers will be addressed on a group by group basis. There will be no evaluations this season as per OHF guidelines. We will transition to a more traditional ‘team’ set up as we progress through OHF’s Return to Play Stages.

Registration
South Huron Minor Hockey Association at their August 11th AGM passed an amendment to the constitution that allows the Executive to take the necessary measures required to protect the health and wellbeing of all participants, families, and volunteers, while also having the ability to change or operate outside of existing policies in order to maintain the sustainability of the Association.
As a result, and in order to support families in their registration efforts, changes have been made to registration collection, the issuing of refunds, and the manner in which referee costs are addressed.
All registration fees will be collected via cheque for the 2020-21 season and must be submitted at each player’s first designated ice time.
Payment #1
Option #1 – cheque in the amount of full registration (-$25 deposit paid upon registering) dated October 1, 2020
Option #2 – 2 cheques. One dated October 1, 2020 for $300 and the second dated November 1, 2020 for the remaining balance of registration. See link below for total amounts.

Girls - https://southhuronminorhockey.ca/Pages/5174/Registration_Fees/
Payment #2
A referee fee (previously gate fee for girls) will be applied to each player of U8 and above (both boys and girls) through a separate cheque of $85, dated December 1, 2020. This cheque will only be cashed if and when games are introduced. These cheques will not be prorated and the monies collected are intended to cover referee costs only.
Payment #3
Given the existing guidance from the Ontario Hockey Federation and participating leagues, as well as existing COVID restrictions, the operation of tournaments for the 2020-21 season remains unknown. While this season may present a change in volunteer requirements, we recognize that different needs for volunteers are likely to arise. As such a Bond Cheque dated February 1, 2021 in the amount of $500 will be required. As always, these cheques will NOT be cashed unless volunteer requirements are not met. The association recognizes that flexibility and health precautions will need to be taken when it comes to providing volunteer services this year.
Families looking for information or support in registering with South Huron Minor Hockey Association this year are asked to contact their respective registrar.
Girls – Jacquee Leppington - [email protected]
Boys – Tracy Heron - [email protected]
Refunds will follow the existing policy as found at the link below.

At this time, we are unable to allow parents to attend scheduled ice sessions. Each ice session will have qualified on ice help and leadership. Specific entry, exit and dressing protocols will be released ahead of our start date on September 12 for 2013 through 2003 boys and girls.
Contract Tracing and Screening will be required for each scheduled ice time by each player/parent.
A warm welcome to both the new and returning members of our executive. A full list of current members can be found at the link below.

Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the requirements to host a modified AGM in 2020, the Association was unable to distribute annual awards. Honouring players and volunteers and paying tribute to the memorial award namesakes is important to the Association.
While we were unable to recognize players and volunteers this year, we look forward to resuming the tradition following the 2020-21 season when it is safe to do so.
Plans to honour our OMHA Co- Champions from 2019-2020 are in the works and details will follow as soon as they are available
Thank you for your continued patience as we all work together to make hockey a safe and enjoyable place to be. This season will require cooperation from parents and players alike and we know our amazing hockey community can be successful!
